Neck Pain Chiropractor in Hingham, MA

YOUR NECK SHOULDN'T RUN YOUR LIFE

People come to us when neck pain keeps getting in the way — disrupting sleep, limiting training, and making every workout feel like a risk. We find what's driving it, address it at the source, and build you back stronger.

Neck Pain That Gets Ignored Only Gets Worse

Rest Only Goes So Far

You back off, it settles. You get back to training or desk work and it comes right back. Recurring neck pain that responds only to rest hasn't actually been fixed — the underlying cause hasn't been touched.

Stretching Isn't Enough

Foam rolling, stretching, heat — there's a role for all of it, but none of it addresses joint mechanics, muscle imbalances, or nerve involvement. If the source of the problem isn't identified, the problem keeps coming back.

It Bleeds Into Everything You Do

Neck pain isn't just a nuisance. It affects how you sleep, how you train, how you sit at a desk, and how much energy you have left at the end of the day. The longer it goes unaddressed, the harder it is to clear.

Common Conditions We Treat

What Brings People In for Neck Care

People come to us with a wide range of neck-related issues. Here's what we see most often.

Neck Pain and Stiffness - Persistent aching, tightness, or restricted range of motion that limits daily activities, exercise, or time at a desk.

Headaches and Migraines - Recurring headaches that originate in the neck or base of the skull — often tension-related and tied to posture or joint dysfunction.

Shoulder and Upper Trap Pain - Tightness and discomfort that radiates from the neck into the shoulder or upper back, often worsening with overhead activity or prolonged sitting.

Nerve-Related Symptoms - Tingling, numbness, or shooting pain into the arm or hand that originates from nerve irritation or compression in the cervical spine.

Post-Whiplash and Trauma Recovery - Neck stiffness, pain, and limited mobility following a car accident, sports collision, or sudden impact that hasn't resolved on its own.

Tech Neck and Desk-Related Pain - Neck and upper back discomfort driven by sustained posture load from screens, laptops, or repetitive work — common in both office workers and athletes with high training volume.

TMJ-Related Neck Tension - Jaw and neck pain that present together, driven by shared muscular and joint connections between the cervical spine and temporomandibular joint.

Brent is the best of the best! You couldn’t pick a more knowledgeable person who can assess your needs and craft a well structured plan to meet your goals. I’m training for the Boston Marathon again and working on running injury free! From my experience so far all the exercises he has me doing has helped me feel not only stronger with my running but it has all helped me run pain free! He really listens to your needs and if anything is sore he will tailor my plan so I can then focus on stretching or strengthening certain muscles! It is unbelievable how my back and hips rarely bother me from all that he has me doing! Would highly recommend Brent!! Can’t wait to see how I do this training block and so excited to not be as sore when I actually run the marathon/feel like my recovery will be quicker too since I’ll be very strong!!

I'm a 69 year old triathlete who has been into the sport since 2013, competitive in my age group in distances ranging from Olympic to full IM. In summer 2024, I had qualified for the 2025 World Triathlon olympic distance championship in Australia scheduled in October. In late 2024 I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis and as I entered 2025, I needed to take a couple of months off from running due to chronic knee inflammation. I was referred to Brent by a fellow senior age grouper and in my intro meeting with him in March, I explained my situation and defined my goal as I needed guidance to help me prepare for my October race, including the several races that I had scheduled as part of my annual training plan. My goal was to be able to run and race as competitely as I could and to finish each race with a smile, whatever the result. As he explained his process (eval, personalized plan and training for performance), I quickly realized that this guy was the real deal, and if I put in the work under his guidance and techniques, I would be successful. Throughout the nine months of training, I increased my strength, balance and mobility. The targeted plan, the monthly in-person sessions, the weekly check-ins and positive encouragement allowed us to keep moving forward despite encountering injuries and health issues along the way. I won the MA state championship in June, placed second in the ME state championship in September. My level of training was limited due to injury/health, and while I couldn't race competitively in October, I did finish with a smile and not last place in my age group. Mission accomplished! I highly recommend Dr. Brent Chuma for athletes of any age or level who want to maximize their performance potential.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here's what people usually want to know before their first visit for neck pain at Surf to Summit.

Is chiropractic care safe for neck pain?

Yes — when performed by a qualified chiropractor with a thorough assessment, chiropractic care for neck pain is safe and well-supported by research. We assess each patient's history, range of motion, and any contraindications before beginning any hands-on treatment.

How many visits will I need?

It depends on how long the issue has been present, what's driving it, and how your body responds. Many patients notice meaningful improvement within the first few visits. We'll give you a clear picture of expectations at your initial assessment rather than keeping you guessing.

Can I keep training while getting treated for neck pain?

In most cases, yes. We work around your training schedule rather than asking you to stop entirely. Load and volume are adjusted where needed, and we'll give you specific guidance on what to modify versus what to continue during care.

Do I need imaging before coming in?

No — you don't need an MRI or X-ray before your first visit. Our assessment is comprehensive enough to identify the source of your symptoms and determine the right approach. If imaging is warranted based on what we find, we'll let you know.

Do you accept insurance for chiropractic care?

Surf to Summit is a cash-based practice — no insurance billing. This means every session is one-on-one with your chiropractor, without restrictions on visit length or frequency. We can provide a superbill for potential reimbursement through your out-of-network benefits, though reimbursement is not guaranteed.
