Do I need a referral to get started?

No referral needed. You can book your first appointment or a free discovery call directly, without a physician's order. If you'd like to seek out-of-network reimbursement from your insurance provider, we can provide a superbill after your visit to support that process.

Will I have to stop training while I'm working with Dr. Chuma?

Not necessarily. Dr. Chuma's goal is to keep you as active as possible throughout your care. He'll assess your movement and build a plan around your sport and training schedule — modifying load or intensity where needed rather than pulling you off the field entirely.

What makes this different from regular chiropractic or physical therapy?

Most chiropractic care stops at the adjustment. Most PT stops at pain-free. At Surf to Summit, sports chiropractic and progressive rehab are fully integrated from day one — and the process doesn't end until you're back to performing the way you want to. Dr. Chuma holds both a DC and a CSCS, which means your care spans from injury all the way through to performance.

Is Surf to Summit a cash-based clinic? Do you take insurance?

Yes, Surf to Summit is cash-based and does not bill insurance directly. We accept pay-in-full and installment payment plans, and HSA/FSA is welcome. Superbills are available for patients who want to pursue out-of-network reimbursement on their own.

Can I work with you if I'm not able to come in person?

Yes. Dr. Chuma offers hybrid and fully virtual care in addition to in-person sessions. Hybrid care pairs in-person treatment with check-in calls, messaging, and a dedicated rehab platform to keep you supported and progressing between visits.
