FAQs

Have a question before you book? Here are the ones we hear most often from new patients on the South Shore.

Do you accept insurance?

Surf to Summit Spine and Sport is a cash-based clinic, which means we do not bill insurance directly. Many patients find that the level of one-on-one care and personalized attention more than justifies the investment. We accept HSA and FSA, and we can provide a superbill after your visit if you would like to seek out-of-network reimbursement from your provider. Specific reimbursement outcomes vary and are not guaranteed.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

Your first visit with Dr. Chuma is a thorough assessment — not a generic intake. He will take the time to understand your history, your movement patterns, and what has and has not worked before. From there, he will explain what he found, why it matters, and what a plan forward looks like. Most people leave their first appointment with more clarity about their situation than they have had in a long time.

Do I have to stop training while I work with you?

In many cases, no. Dr. Chuma's approach is designed to keep you as active as possible throughout the process. Rather than telling you to rest and wait, the goal is to find modifications and progressions that let you keep moving safely while your body heals and builds back up. Every plan is individualized, so your activity level will depend on your specific situation.

Do you offer virtual or remote care?

Yes. In addition to in-person sessions, Surf to Summit offers hybrid and fully virtual care options. Hybrid patients receive in-person treatment supported by between-visit check-ins, messaging, and a dedicated rehab platform for tracking progress. Fully virtual care is also available for patients who cannot make it to Hingham in person. Reach out to discuss which format makes the most sense for your situation.

How is this different from regular chiropractic or physical therapy?

Most chiropractic care stops at the adjustment. Most physical therapy stops at pain-free. At Surf to Summit, Dr. Chuma is both a Doctor of Chiropractic and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist — which means your care does not stop at symptom relief. The goal is to take you from pain through rehab and all the way into peak performance, with a plan tailored to your sport, your activity, and your long-term movement health.
